When is a chimneysweep needed?

Chimneysweeps are needed at least once a year or, depending on what type of wood is burned in the firebox, every 75 to 85 fireplace uses. Summer cleanings are recommended to prepare for the upcoming burning season, unless excess burning makes it likely that in the warm summer months there will be an odor problem due to build up of chemicals in the chimney.
